Snapshot Day

Snapshot Day is a one-day, volunteer-based event designed to collect watershed information during one point in time.  Volunteer "team leaders" are trained, and these leaders accompany teams of volunteers to various pre-determined sites to collect information relative to the health of our warersheds.  The purpose of this effort is two fold:

  1. to promove enviromnetal edication and stewardship, and
  2. to collect valuable water quality information.
While there is a great deal of high quality agency and university-sponsored monitoring taking place in the region, there is still insufficient information to adequately assess the status of all of the aquatic resources in the Truckee River and Lake Tahoe Basin watersheds.  With proper training and quality assurance, community volunteers can help fill this void by providing valuable informatio for watershed management and pollution prevention.
